After you’d picked your favourite team, ironed your pitch, and - if you were frightfully spoilt and frightfully rich - erected your stadium, you and your buddies would merrily spend hours flicking your little men to your heart’s content against your favourite opposition.
True, it was devastating when you decapitated a man (taking him off at the knee caps bought a whole new meaning to the Footballing World) and let’s face it, nobody actually knew the rules, but this mattered not a jot. There was not a better way to spend an afternoon. It’s official.
